inovia Ranks as Top PCT Firm in the United States for Third Consecutive Year, Maintains Second in the World Status

Managing Intellectual Property Magazine's Annual Ranking of the World's Largest Filers of Patents Under the Patent Cooperation Treaty Dominated by inovia and its Global Agents

inovia, the leading foreign filing provider, today announced that it has placed second in the world and first in the United States for the third consecutive year by Managing Intellectual Property magazine’s annual ranking of the top Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) firms. inovia handled the national stage entry of more than 1,500 PCTs this year, a 10 percent increase from 2012 and more than doubling the number of filings from 2011. This significant growth underscores the value inovia’s technology brings to the marketplace as companies, universities and law firms look for new and innovative ways to reduce the cost and complexity of foreign patent filing.

Now in its fifth year, Managing IP‘s list of the law firms handling the most patents filed under the PCT is based on details published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Managing IP‘s top PCT filing firms list is an important benchmark of firms’ activity in the patent market, especially as PCT applications are assuming a bigger role in IP owners’ protection strategies. The survey has become an important tool for law firms seeking a reliable resource for identifying potential attorney firms around the world with whom they can exchange patent work.

In addition to providing a comprehensive technology solution to simplify the foreign filing process and reduce costs, inovia boasts a global network of agents in more than 120 countries, responsible for coordinating more than 45,000 foreign patent filings totaling more than $100 million to date. Like the accelerated adoption of the inovia.com platform, the company’s global network of agents has also experienced significant growth, increasing the number of countries covered by 25 percent in 2013.

“The inovia platform does 95 percent of the administrative work once handled manually during the foreign protection process,” said David Nelson, CEO of inovia. “During times of economic turmoil as well as prosperity, the trend toward outsourcing, globalization and identifying low-cost, high-value solutions continues to be popular for most organizations. As a result, inovia continues to see tremendous growth year-over-year and ranks at the top of the PCT firm rankings.”

As in years past, several of inovia’s foreign agents ranked among the top filers in their local markets according to the Managing IP survey. China’s largest filer and an inovia agent, China-Pat Intellectual Property Office, tops the worldwide ranking for the second consecutive year with 1,772 applications. Also ranking first in their respected countries was Awapatent of Sweden for the second consecutive year and Reinhold Cohn & Partners of Israel, moving up a position from its 2012 second place finish.

Other top-ranking inovia agents in their regions include Nederlandsch Octrooibureau of the Netherlands (#2), Meissner Bolte & Partner of Germany (#2), AFD China Intellectual Property Law Office of China (#3), Sunyoung International Patent & Law Firm of Korea (#3), Ridout & Maybee of Canada (#3), S. Majumdar & Co. of India (#3), Bereskin & Parr of Canada (#4), Borden Ladner Gervais of Canada (#5), Harness Dickey of the United States (#8), Hanol Intellectual Property & Law of Korea (#9), Shelston IP of Australia (#9), Freehills Patent Attorneys of Australia (#10), and Kilburn & Strode of the United Kingdom (#10).
