inovia to Share its Expertise on International Patent Filing to Help Spur Innovation and Increase the Success of High-Growth Enterprises in the United States
inovia, the leading foreign filing platform provider, today announced its alliance with the Startup America Partnership, a private sector organization dedicated to helping startups grow that was launched at the White House early last year.
inovia joins an alliance of major corporations, funders, service providers, mentors and advisors working to dramatically increase the prevalence and success of high-growth enterprises in the United States. As the recent United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) report, International Patent Protections for Small Businesses suggests, the capacity for American small business to create jobs is at risk due to the high costs of acquiring, maintaining and enforcing patents outside the United States. As one of the largest foreign filing providers in the world and first in the United States, inovia understands the challenges small businesses and solo inventors face as they seek to protect their innovations from competitors, attract investor capital, build market share and create jobs. The company will offer The Partnership and its membership expert advice on how to successfully, and cost-effectively, extend patent rights outside the U.S.
With pressure on intellectual property budgets leading to increased demand for fixed and/or lower foreign filing fees, many applicants and law firms are looking to outsource portions of the foreign patent filing process and are turning to specialist providers like inovia. More than 1,000 companies, law firms and universities have used inovia’s online platform, inovia.com, to reduce the cost and complexity of their PCT national stage entry, European patent validation and patent translation work. In 2011, inovia created its Small Business Solutions Team to address the unique concerns of inventors, startups and small businesses seeking international patent protection.
“Resource-strapped startups are especially burdened by the high cost and complexity of foreign filling,” said David Nelson, CEO of inovia. “Many young companies have either not been able to file at all, or have been forced to reduce the number of countries they file in – leaving their innovations exposed to competitive threats and lost market opportunity. At inovia, we’re committed to making the foreign filing process easy and cost-effective, so that solo inventors and entrepreneurs can get the protection they need to bring their innovations to market, keep cost down and fuel the job-creation engine that will boost the economy. We’re delighted to be involved with the Startup America Partnership and to help make a positive and lasting contribution to the success of these enterprises.”
