inovia Ranks Third in the World and First in the United States as Top PCT Filing Firm by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine
Annual Assessment of the World's Largest Filers of Patents Under the Patent Cooperation Treaty Shows Increased Market Demand for inovia's Technology
New York, NY · October 11, 2011 · inovia, the leading foreign filing platform provider, has ranked third worldwide in Managing Intellectual Property magazine's annual ranking of the top Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) filing firms. Moving up a spot from its 2010 fourth place position, inovia will handle the national stage entry of 744 PCTs in 2011 compared to 638 in 2010. The near 20 percent increase in PCT filings by inovia compared to the 4.8 percent market increase in total PCT applications worldwide underscores the value inovia's technology brings to the marketplace and the growing demand for technology solutions that reduce the cost and complexity of foreign patent filing, specifically PCT national stage entry and European validation.
Now in its third year, Managing IP's list of the biggest filers of applications for patents filed under the PCT is based on details published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system. Managing IP's PCT survey is an important benchmark of firms' activity in the patent market especially as PCT applications are assuming a bigger role in IP owners' protection strategies. The survey has become an important tool for law firms seeking a reliable resource for identifying potential outsourced suppliers and/or reciprocity firms around the world to assist with PCT filings.
The annual "U.S. 2011 Global Patent & IP Trends Indicator" report sponsored by inovia found that nearly 60 percent of all respondents were working on a reduced IP budget going into 2011—continuing the trend of doing more with less in a slowly recovering economy. Despite these overall findings, inovia continues to see increased demand and use of its technology platform by clients who are seeking smarter, more creative and strategic ways to offset IP costs.
"It's no surprise to us that the inovia platform is seeing more and more traction each year and has topped the U.S. market for PCT national stage filings," said Joe Marino, President of inovia. "We've worked diligently to provide a solution that meets the evolving needs of the industry. With product features like the 1-click quote, an elite global network of agents and an easy, seamless way for clients, agents and attorneys to instruct, communicate and manage the foreign filing process, inovia is changing the foreign filing landscape and bringing significant value, both in time and cost savings, to its users."
Similar to the 2010 list, several of inovia's foreign agents ranked among the top filers in their local markets. AFD China Intellectual Property was seventh in the world and first in China and for the second consecutive year Reinhold Cohn & Partners ranked second in Israel. Other partner agents include Shelston IP (7th in Australia), Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (5th in Canada), Kilburn & Strode (6th in Great Britain) and SunYoung International Patent & Law Firm (8th in Korea).
