inovia Extends Foreign Patent Filing Services into Africa with Addition of ARIPO

New York, NY · July 28, 2010 · inovia, the leading foreign filing platform provider, announced today that it is now offering PCT national stage entry into the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO). ARIPO comprises 16 member states and extends inovia's foreign filing capabilities to 79 countries. The company welcomes the law firm of Spoor & Fisher to its global agent network.

"We are delighted to add ARIPO to our foreign patent filing capabilities," said David Nelson, CEO of inovia. "Africa's collective GDP, at $1.6 trillion in 2008, is on par with Brazil or Russia and our clients are seeking cost-effective patent protection in this growing region."

inovia's 2010 U.S. IP Trends Report found nearly 80% of US applicants currently do or plan to file into the BRIC countries this year; the company expects patent filing into ARIPO to increase substantially in the coming years to match that of BRIC filing.

Craig Kahn, a partner at Spoor & Fisher, comments, "We are proud to join inovia's agent network and facilitate PCT national stage entry into ARIPO for their clients. Established in South Africa in 1920, Spoor & Fisher is the ideal IP partner when working in Africa."
